Sacred Community Birthworker Training
Our Sacred Community Birthworker Training is a 9 week curriculum to help support and strengthen the skills of our local birthworkers. They are taught by seasoned BIPOC midwives, doulas, comadres and other practitioners in numerous topics that touch on all the phases of peoples’ reproductive health as well as harm reduction, community care, history, advocacy and entrepreneurship. These lessons are intended to provide ancestral knowledge around pregnancy, birth, loss and postpartum to ensure our community is receiving culturally competent care that can support both their physical and mental health. Our teachings help make sure that our community is receiving dignified care, where individuals are seen as a whole and complex person whose needs are validated.
In 2022 we held our very first cohort to pilot this training. In 2023 we had our second cohort. Now we are working on the production of a virtual curriculum so our community who cannot attend in person or who would like to learn at their own pace can do so. We hope to have this launched in the Spring of 2024 with an additional third in person co-hort some time next year.
