Statement on behalf of the mothers, tias, and grandmothers of the Cihuapactli Collective:

Before George Floyd was murdered, he called out for his mother. She heard you, George. The world heard you, and so did our collective. Mr. Floyd's agonizing pleas invoked not only his own ancestors but the cry of collective dignity from across Indigenous lands, and WE HEARD IT.

The Cihuapactli Collective was birthed after a mother’s call for her community. In the same way that we respond to mothers and families, we respond to the call and stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and the Black community to increase inclusive spaces that affirm all Black folxs. We work to create and nourish relations with our Black relatives, most notably through birth work. As Indigenous Peoples we acknowledge our responsibility to raise our children to know Black history, Black stories, and to be partners in a world where many worlds fit.

Your momma heard you, George, and so did we. In your name and for all those impacted by injustice and violence, we will continue to build Black and Indigenous solidarity towards abolishing systemic oppression for the next seven generations.
